Opinion regarding social business remains split. For every organisation that encourages use of social tools within the firewall, there is another that steadfastly refuses to engage.
For one camp, they improve engagement and collaboration, inspiring a networked and more productive company. For the other, social tools are at best unproven and at worst a downright distraction: a drain on individual performance.
Yet as workforce demographics change, employers may find they have no option. More and more people entering the world of work will expect to make connections and have conversations with colleagues across their company based on shared interests, not just on shared geography. They will want (and maybe need) suitable tools and platforms to be in place. Organisations that fail to respond might find themselves left behind.
So how can employers rise to the challenge? How can they create or identify the tools and technologies which encourage workplace communities to thrive? And how can they find the approach and tools/platforms that best suit themselves and their people?
