Personalised outdoor advertising

I saw this outdoor ad in a London underground lift just before Christmas.  It also reminds me of a similar ad on a digital escalator panel (DEP) in Bond Street in London some months ago.

I wonder if CBS Outdoor actually expected Joe to be in this tube lift on the way home from a meeting with them (much more likely with the DEP example as they can change the campaigns rapidly), or if it was just targeted at “any old Joe”.

It got me thinking though, how soon will we start to see this sort of “personal” advertising on our communication devices, and what benefit would we expect for brands to have this relationship with us?

There were some from CBS last year at Tott Ct Road, specifically welcoming another agency to their new offices. I can’t remember who – how annoying! But I was impressed at the targeting and effort.
