Google are starting to monetize mobile maps

It was only going to be a matter of time until sponsored Google mobile maps results would appear.

Today when I was seaching for the Waldorf Hotel in London, the actual location was identified by a Hilton logo on my Google mobile maps screen (it was clearly identified as a sponsored link) and the results page also had it at the top of the list.

Nice!  See the screen shots below.

    Hi Andrew,

Very nice! What happens when you click on the link? Does it open the Nokia browser for more details? Mobile or standard web page?

    Cheers,
    Martin

Martin, you bet – fully integrated with the E71 browser when you hit the link.

Good question regarding the target page – web vs mobile page.

Just tried it – http://www.hilton.co.uk/The-Waldorf which is the sponsored link provided goes to a WEB page not a mobile page…oh dear – someone should go and sell Hilton mobile landing pages for their Google maps sponsored links.

If they are already investing in sponsored GMM results, they MUST invest in mobile landing pages as these searches are coming from Google MOBILE maps!
